Thomas Braxton

I graduated from Cardiff University with a BSc in Biomedical Science in 2018.

What previous lab experience do you have?

Along with lab experiences I gained during my undergraduate degree, I also completed a summer project working with Prader-Willi Syndrome mice which gave me the feel of what collaboration between Biology and Engineering can be.

What attracted you to the Centre for Doctoral Training in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine – Innovation in Medical and Biological Engineering

The Centre for Doctoral Training aspect was extremely appealing as it is able to teach a wide range of skills that a straight PhD would not be able to, helping to lead to a much more rounded PhD.

What benefits do you feel you get from the interdisciplinary nature of the course?

Coming from a biological background, this interdisciplinary nature has helped me to really understand how engineering concepts can be applied to biology.

What have you found most challenging about the CDT course?

Coming from a biological background, some of the engineering concepts were difficult to get my head around. As soon as I did though, I felt like they were really beneficial to my research.

Could you give one phrase that would persuade others to join the CDT?

Thoroughly worth applying for!
