The Young Entrepreneurs Scheme (YES) is a global competition which encourages researchers to combine translatable scientific research with entrepreneurial knowledge in order to develop a business plan and commercialise a scientific-based product.

This year, five students from CDT TERM-iMBE took part in the YES19 Biotechnology competition. The team developed a business model surrounding a smartphone-based gait analysis tool D.O.R.I.S - capable of predicting a person's risk of developing musculoskeletal conditions which, in turn, provides bespoke risk analyses and risk reduction techniques.

During the first round of the competition, the team visited the GSK campus to receive mentorship from entrepreneurs, patent attorneys, marketing experts and financial advisors. With this, the team was able to advance to the finals and present their business pitch at the Royal Society, London.
