Policy Internship at The Royal Society

Date

Katherine Timms, 3rd year CDT TERM-iMBE student has been offered a 3 month policy internship at the Royal Society.

From September to December 2018 I will be undertaking a 3 month policy internship at The Royal Society. I’ll be working in the wellbeing team; where they evaluate evidence and give policy advice on topics such as genetic technologies and agriculture/environment. These topics are even more important in the context of Brexit, which will provide more challenges and opportunities. The scheme is funded through Research Councils UK, and I will be getting a 3 month extension to my PhD. There is more information on the RCUK site (http://www.rcuk.ac.uk/skills/policy-internships-scheme/). The application process was quite gruelling; you have to write a CV, answer questions about why you want to undertake a policy internship, and write a two-page briefing on any subject (which is not linked to your PhD). But, I managed to succeed thanks to my previous secondment in January funded by MeDe, and my own interest, drive and ambition!
